DIMMU BORGIR Featured On MTV's 'Battle For Ozzfest' ~

DIMMU BORGIR will make an entertaining appearance on MTV's reality series "Battle for Ozzfest" for a full episode airing next Monday, December 13 at 10:30 p.m. EST.

While on tour for the successful 2004 Ozzfest, the Norwegian black metal band spent a full day of controversy and mayhem on MTV's "Battle For OZZfest", which became a full episode airing next week
December 13.

If you haven't been watching the show already, you may not know that DIMMU BORGIR's "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse", taken from their acclaimed release "Death Cult Armageddon" (which has sold more than 79,000 copies in the U.S., accoding to Nielsen SoundScan) is also the theme music for the whole season's worth of shows.

~ 2 Members of Damaeplan Shot and Killed, including ex-PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell ~

At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported. The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Rd.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band before a bouncer tackled the gunman before he was shot and killed. Columbus police Sgt. Brent Mall said the shooter appeared to be targeting
the band members. After opening fire on the stage, the gunman turned on the crowd. At that point, an officer shot the man dead, Mall added. Police said there could have been many more fatalities had the officer not killed the gunman.

NBC 4 reported that of the surviving victims, one person was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries. Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported. According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

~ Gunman Tried To Talk To DAMAGEPLAN Bandmembers Before Show ~

The gunman who fatally shot four people - including DAMAGEPLAN (and former PANTERA) guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott - at Columbus, Ohio's Alrosa Villa nightclub Wednesday night alarmed the club's workers before the gig, according to RollingStone.com. "He was hanging around trying to get in," manager Rick Cantella said. "We told him . . . that he had to pay to get in like anyone else. One of my loaders told him to leave . . . He was hanging around trying to talk to the members of the band, and he was shooed away." Just before the show, Nathan Gale, 25, jumped an eight-foot fence to get inside, and headed straight for the stage. "There were guys chasing him as soon as he got in," explained Cantella, "not because [they saw] he had a gun, but because he jumped this fence and didn't pay."

During the gunfire, a local nurse in the audience, twenty-eight-year-old Mindy Reece, stepped in to aid Abbott. "The one thing that stands out in my mind was I could see Vinnie [Paul] stand up from behind the drums and look down...He had this look on his face like, 'Oh my fucking God.'" said Reece, a PANTERA fan since the age of thirteen. With the help of another audience member, she performed CPR on Abbott for several minutes until the paramedics arrived. "I kept saying, 'Dimebag, come on, come on please, stay with me,'" she recalls. "It was bad . . . There was blood on the floor."

~ Man Suspected Of Killing DIMEBAG Made People Uncomfortable ~

The man suspected of fatally shooting DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Dimebag Darrell and three others during a concert in Columbus last night liked to hang out a tattoo parlor near his house and was a member of the local Eagles lodge, according to the Associated Press.

But no one at those places knew much about 25-year-old Nathan Gale, who police say walked on stage at the Alrosa Villa nightclub and opened fire as the band DAMAGEPLAN began its set.

Lucas Bender manages the tattoo parlor across the street from Gale's Marysville apartment. He says Gale used to talk about music but that he never mentioned DAMAGEPLAN or its predecessor PANTERA. Bender says Gale sometimes made customers uncomfortable by staring at them and that he often hung around when he wasn't wanted.

Marysville police say Gale has been arrested for trespassing and driving with a suspended license but wasn't known as a troublemaker

Some people who knew Nathan "Nate" Gale said Thursday that the heavy metal music fan had a quick temper, NBC 4 has reported. Gale, 25, was the man who police said shot and killed four people inside the Alrosa Village nightclub Wednesday night. A Columbus police officer who was called to the scene shot and killed Gale as he was holding a hostage, authorities said.

Gale was a 1998 Marysville High School graduate and lived in an apartment in downtown Marysville, NBC 4's Holly Hollingsworth reported. He served in the United States Marine Corps from February 2002 through November 2003, but did not serve his full term, Hollingsworth reported. The USMC would not give the circumstances of his discharge, Hollingsworth reported.

While some in the community said Gale had a quick temper, others said he was a good-natured person. Mikayla Weitzenecker, who works at Maggie's Restaurant in Marysville, said Gale was in the restaurant this week and said he loved children.

"He always played with the little ones when he was in here," Weitzenecker said. "He was just a real gentle guy. He seemed like a big old teddy bear to me. I never would have thought what made him do that."

"For anyone who hasn't heard, I had a seizure, which caused me to go into a coma for like two months. I am currently at a rehabilitation hospital trying to get better. I guess my coma was really bad - I almost died, and when I survived the doctors wanted to pull the plug on me because they thought I was going to be a vegetable for the rest of my life. I also had really bad pneumonia and I had to be put on dialysis for kidney failure. I overcame all that shit, though, and I am totally fine again mentally. The only problem is I can't walk or use my hands properly, but i am working on all that and coming along well. So, i am here at the hospital watching gay TV shows all day, eating horrible hospital food, trying to scratch myself in places I can't reach, and taking as many pain killers as possible. Hopefully I will be out of here in a couple of months.

"The ANAL CUNT / DAMIEN STORM shows didn't happen because I was comatose. Hopefully, we will make them up at a future date. FULL BLOWN AIDS didn't record either. We'll get around to it eventually. A.C. and YOU'RE FIRED will both be working on new albums soon.

"'Top 40 Hits' is now available for download. When I get home, I will try to get some demo stuff up on the site. I haven't been able to answer any emails, but I will try and get back to people eventually. That's it for now. I'll do another update when something interesting happens."

~ ARCH ENEMY To Film London Gig For Upcoming DVD ~

ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott recently spoke to MetalEater.com about the group's recent tour with CRADLE OF FILTH, their "Dead Eyes See No Future" EP and the upcoming studio album, among other topics. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

MetalEater.com: What's your overall take on the current metal scene?

Michael Amott: "Well, there's a lot of stuff that's called 'metal' that I wouldn't really necessarily consider metal music. Coming from where I come from, with the roots I have - I think a lot of bands - their roots don't stretch further than maybe like PANTERA or something like mid-'90s type stuff. Metal for me is more like JUDAS PRIEST. Growing up, I listened to a lot of SLAYER, old METALLICA, MEGADETH - bands like that. Those bands kind of embrace the older type of metal. So, we kind of try to follow in that tradition. We're not doing anything new, but we're doing it better than most people like us. We just try to write good songs within that extreme metal format - the most extreme metal guitar harmonies - a lot of more traditional song writing, I guess. But it's definitely extreme metal. I wouldn't call what we do death metal. There are a lot of bands - more bands than ever - but I think that a lot of bands aren't necessarily that original. There's a lot of stuff that sounds the same."

MetalEater.com: When can we expect a new ARCH ENEMY album?

Michael Amott: "We're actually talking about recording a new album in March. We'll see if we can keep that deadline. I don't know if we'll stick to that, but that would be great. That's what we're talking about. And then I don't know - hopefully get it out during the summer - or early summer. A lot of things are going to need to go the right way for us to meet those deadliness, so we're just hoping that nothing goes wrong, which they probably will (laughs). We've been trying to write something on the road and we've got a bunch of stuff ready as well - songs that are in the can - like 5 or 6. So, it should be possible to pull it together. It'll be fun."

MetalEater.com: What can we expect from the new album? Is it going to be much of the same sound?

Michael Amott: "Hopefully more extreme. I just don't want to.... (Angela interjects: More extreme!) More extreme. I don't know. We just want to keep it more of a real high energy level. A lot of bands try to widen their appeal by changing their music. We'd just rather work real hard at what we do and do what we do without really compromising the integrity of the music, which I think you see a lot. We don't really want to get into that. We just want to keep it real edgy. We're quite comfortable with staying on the extreme side of the fence. (Angela laughs)."

MetalEater.com: After the tour is over, what are your plans?

Michael Amott: "Well, our plan is actually to go to London in the U.K. right after the last show of this tour. We're supposed to shoot a DVD. We're doing a big show in London with DARK TRANQUILLITY, THE HAUNTED, and NIGHTRAGE. There are three bands opening up. So it's all four Swedish bands and we'll be headlining. We're doing a longer set and we're shooting that for a DVD. There's that, and then obviously all the stuff you have to deal with in putting a DVD together - in the New Year. I guess in early January we're going to start rehearsing for the new album and do some pre-production for that. So it's basically what we did last time from the 'Wages of Sin' album to 'Anthems of Rebellion'. We stopped touring on the Friday and we started pre-production on the Monday (laughs). That's what happened on that album. It looks like it's going to be pretty much the same thing. We're going to have Christmas and New Year's off at home with our families."
